Sheynnis, cao 1,8 m, là một người mẫu, nhà hoạt động xã hội tại quê nhà. Cô từng đăng quang Hoa hậu Thế giới Nicaragua 2020, dự Miss World 2021, vào top 40. Sau đó, cô tiếp tục thử sức với Hoa hậu Hoàn vũ Nicaragua 2023 và đăng quang, giành suất đến với Miss Universe lần thứ 72.

Tại chặng cuối, cô lần lượt trải qua các phần thi áo tắm (dành cho top 20), dạ hội (top 10), ứng xử (top 5). Mỗi lần bước ra sân khấu, cô gây chú ý với bước catwalk tự tin, thần thái, được khán giả ủng hộ.
Ở câu hỏi ứng xử chung dành cho top 3: “Nếu được sống một năm với tư cách là một người phụ nữ khác, bạn sẽ sẽ chọn ai, vì sao”, Sheynnis Palacios nói: “Tôi chọn Mary Wollstonecraft – người phụ nữ đã thu hẹp khoảng trống, mở ra rất nhiều cơ hội cho phụ nữ. Tôi muốn thấy khoảng cách thu nhập của người phụ nữ sẽ được thu hẹp, để họ có thể làm việc ở bất cứ lĩnh vực nào. Không có bất kỳ giới hạn nào về khả năng cho phụ nữ. Hiện đã là năm 2023, chúng ta có thể làm nên lịch sử”.

Còn ở vòng thi ứng xử top 5, cô nhận câu hỏi: “Yếu tố nào đã giúp bạn trở thành nhà lãnh đạo, tấm gương cho người khác?”. Người đẹp nói: “Với tôi, yếu tố truyền cảm hứng cho nhiều cô gái là cần phải trân trọng mọi thứ dù là nhỏ bé nhất bởi vì đó là cốt lõi của giá trị sống, nhân văn trong mỗi con người”.
Từ đầu cuộc thi, nhiều chuyên trang sắc đẹp quốc tế liên tục đưa cô vào bảng dự đoán đạt thành tích cao. Theo Missosology, Nicaragua Sheynnis Palacios là ứng viên tiềm năng, có nhiều kinh nghiệm trình diễn và vẻ đẹp thanh lịch. “Cô ấy bước đi như nữ hoàng trên sàn diễn với sự kết hợp hoàn hảo giữa vẻ đẹp dịu dàng và sự dữ dội’, một chuyên gia sắc đẹp của đơn vị này từng nhận định.

Danh hiệu á hậu 1 và 2 lần lượt gọi tên người đẹp Thái Lan, Australia. Hai thí sinh còn lại trong top 5 là người đẹp Puerto Rico, Colombia.
Hoa hậu Bùi Quỳnh Hoa không vào top 20. Cô sang El Salvador thi Miss Universe hôm 2/11 sau một tháng chuẩn bị. Hồi cuối tháng 9, Bùi Quỳnh Hoa đăng quang Miss Universe Vietnam 2023. Cô 25 tuổi, quê Hà Nội, cao 1,75 m, số đo 83-60-94 cm.

Đêm chung kết do MC gốc Việt Jeannie Mai, Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo cùng người đẹp Maria Menounos dẫn dắt. Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray và người đẹp Zuri Hall làm MC hậu trường. Điểm nhấn trên sân khấu là màn phát biểu của Tổng thống El Salvador, phần trình diễn âm nhạc của ca sĩ John Legend, “final walk” của đương kim hoa hậu R’Bonney Gabriel. Sân khấu chung kết được nhiều khán giả nhận xét đẹp mắt, đầu tư lớn, các phần thi diễn ra sôi động.
16 ngày qua, thí sinh trải qua các vòng thi phụ như Trang phục dân tộc, phỏng vấn kín. Hôm 16/11, vòng bán kết livestream trên nàng tảng YouTube cuộc thi hút hơn sáu triệu lượt xem sau một ngày, vào top thịnh hành của hơn 30 quốc gia.
Cuộc thi lần thứ 72 diễn ra trong bối cảnh có nhiều sự thay đổi về mặt nhân sự, đơn vị chủ quản. Hôm 17/11, bà Paula Shugart từ chức vị trí chủ tịch Miss Universe sau 23 năm nắm quyền, giữa bối cảnh công ty chủ quản – JKN Global Group do đại gia Anne Jakkaphong Jakrajutatipxin, người Thái Lan – nộp đơn xin phá sản. Tuy nhiên, Jakrajutatip cho rằng cuộc thi Miss Universe 2023 không bị ảnh hưởng, do chỉ là một trong nhiều lĩnh vực kinh doanh của công ty.
Miss Universe tổ chức lần đầu năm 1952, là một trong cuộc thi nhan sắc thu hút nhiều người xem nhất thế giới, với 165 quốc gia và vùng lãnh thổ mua bản quyền phát sóng. Cựu tổng thống Mỹ Donald Trump từng sở hữu toàn bộ cổ phần của Miss Universe Organization. Năm 2015, tổ chức được bán cho công ty IMG của CEO Amy Emmerich và chủ tịch Paula Shugart. Hai người này vẫn giữ nguyên vai trò sau khi doanh nhân Thái Lan mua lại tổ chức cuối tháng 10/2022.
